WEX Global 2023: Focus on Leakage & Water Scarcity
Fresh water scarcity is intensifying, and WEX Global’s mission is to tackle the big issues in water and energy, placing them right at the top of the agenda. The World Bank estimates that a possible 30% of expensively-treated water is lost in networks every day. Across England and Wales alone, just under 3 billion litres of water is lost every day as a result of leakage. As water companies struggle with adequate funding for the challenges they face, their ability to tackle the issue of leakage faces constraints. Technology is constantly playing catch-up to adapt previous methods – for example, plastic piping presents new problems for the leakage detection methods, due to its virtual silence.
Water infrastructure is extensive and deeply embedded, in the form of thousands of kilometres of pipework buried beneath roads, houses and public buildings, advanced technology has long been seen to be the solution to finding and fixing leaks. Notable recent examples include Anglian Water’s use of thermal drone technology and Northumbrian Water’s satellite leakage technology.
In two ground-breaking sessions, WEX Global 2023 will deliver the wake-up call water management needs to innovate and problem-solve, in front of world leaders. Read on for details…
WEX GLOBAL SOLUTIONS: two ground breaking sessions
Session 1:
Empowering Water Utilities with AI to Deliver Transformative Outcomes
Victoria Edwards, CEO of FIDO Direct, once trained as a concert pianist but is now a passionate and ceaseless campaigner on global water scarcity. She will lead a panel of Industry experts at WEX Global 2023 including Tom Freyberg of Atlantean Media, Dragan Savic of KWR, Rik Thijssen of Vitens (Netherlands), and Andrew Donnelly of EPAL, to focus on the importance of digital solutions in reducing water loss, improving performance, and lowering costs, while simultaneously ensuring water safety, affordability, and greater resilience. Key questions include:
- Are there solutions based on data-driven intelligence which can reach across the entire water cycle and enable new approaches to water and wastewater management?
- How are AI and digital transformation taking service delivery to the next level?
- What are the essential management inputs required for transformational outcomes?
This session is sponsored by FIDO Direct.
FIDO Direct – an end-to-end solution to solve water loss, sponsoring WEX Global 2023
FIDO AI underpins FIDO Direct and is the only data-as-a-service (DaaS) end-to-end leak detection solution to identify leaks and their sizes.
FIDO has partnered with Northumbrian Water to achieve a 37% leakage reduction across 15 assigned district metering areas (DMAs). FIDO’S AI technology is unique in its ability to upload any files from any sensor device, analysing them instantly and ranking them by size, to more than 92% accuracy.
Session 2:
Implementing a Sustainable Water Management Plan for Large Urban Networks
In this important session, international utility leaders such as Mark Barnett of National Water Commission, Jamaica will work out what it takes for cities to improve sustainable water management and reduce NRW levels, harnessing financial and operational efficiency, providing water and wastewater services across all five continents through various engagement models to more than 1.5 million people. Driven by CEO Noam Komy, MIYA has pioneered award-winning innovative approaches to performance-based contracting in NRW which are seen as the benchmark of best practice across the Caribbean and Latin America. Key themes include:
- Implementing a plan to control critical water loss
- The role of AI in managing big urban water networks
- Best practice in implanting innovative methodologies and strategies for reducing both the commercial and physical losses
- Performance-based contracting and innovative financial models
This session is sponsored by Miya.
